Next month, the lotus blossoms will be at their finest at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C. And yes, I’ll be there once again (even though these lovely blooms choose to do their thing on the hottest day of the summer, year after year. Ah, well, no pain, no gain, right? Even for photographers! Here are some images I shot last year.

Gorgeous!!
What lens did you use to get the last one…with the dragonfly? I am looking at getting a macro lens…not yet, but someday…I just hardly know where to start!
It was great seeing you over the weekend! Can’t wait to see you again in a few weeks in New Jersey!
You’ll need a macro or micro lens. Since I’m a Nikon gal, I use Nikon lenses—all my closeups are shot with the 105mm micro lens by Nikon (runs about $850!). I think your DSLR is a Canon; Canon makes great lenses, too. Remember, a micro/macro lens isn’t just good for closeups—it makes a great portrait lens (you can get in close to your subject, framing head and head/shoulder portraits without being right in your subject’s face). So, I also use my 105 for tightly cropped portraits. It’s not just great for closeups! It is the one lens that I NEVER neglect to have in my bag!
