Photo Posse

27 10 2013

Thanks to my friend, F.T. Eyre, for naming our little photography group this morning! The five of us headed out to the Blandy Experimental Farm and State Arboretum in Boyce, VA yesterday morning to photograph the Ginkgo grove. Nice and cool fall weather, impossibly clear blue sky and bright yellow leaves everywhere! Heather (my SFAM—sister from another mother) and I especially enjoyed singing blue-themed songs such as Michael Johnson’s 1978 “Bluer than Blue” (we knew all the lyrics—does that show our ages?) while on our backs photographing the leaves against the sky. Way fun morning with way fun friends!

Founding members of the Photo Posse are shown below, from left to right: Michael Schwehr, Michael Powell, Heather Callin and F.T. Eyre. Applications welcomed. 😉

Re-post: Fall in Virginia

25 10 2013

We’ll be heading out to Boyce, Virginia to the Blandy Experimental Farm to check out the Ginkgo grove this coming Saturday, so maybe I’ll have new fall photos to post!

Originally posted in October, 2010

Since I haven’t been able to get my bounty of fall photos this year, I’ve made a collage of my favorite images from the past three years. These were all shot in various parts of Virginia, including my own neighborhood. Enjoy!

In 2012, Barbara Kelley and I launched Celebrate Home Magazine, a quarterly lifestyle publication. Visit our website at www.celebratehomemagazine.com. We published four issues (fall 2012, winter 2013, spring 2013 and summer 2013). Just in time for fall, I’m reposting our first issue that highlights perfect-for-fall recipes by Barbara Kelley.

Sole to Soul

17 10 2013

Hayleigh in pinkI met and photographed Hayleigh (left) and her lovely family in D.C. at HLAA Convention 2011. Hayleigh started her business, Hayleigh’s Cherished Charms, making hearing aid and cochlear implant ear “charms” and the whole family is involved in her venture. You can learn more about Hayleigh and her thriving business in my blog post here.

Please consider donating to their Sole to Soul fundraising campaign! Their goal is to raise $30,000 to buy 1200 pairs of shoes for children in Kenya whose school/dormitory recently burned down, forcing them to return to their homes in the slums of Kenya. They have raised $5,000 so far from babysitting, bake sales and other fundraising efforts. They plan to purchase the shoes in Kenya to support the local economy and will hand deliver them to the children in need.

And while you’re at it, send out a prayer and good thoughts of continued healing for Hayleigh, who is in the hospital in critical but stable condition.

In the studio: Jeff, Angie and Annabella

1 10 2013

Earlier this summer I photographed my friend Jeff, his girlfriend Angie and her daughter Annabella. Here are some more images from that shoot. Jeff is the friend who talked me into pursuing a solo photography exhibit at Green Spring Gardens last year. Jeff and I had a joint photography exhibit at The Frame Factory in July and August this summer. I am forever grateful for the push, Jeff!
