I will write a more fitting tribute punctuated by wonderful photos when my head is on straight, but I wanted to share the sad news that my father passed away this morning in hospice care at 1:42 a.m. He was surrounded by love, despite his futile efforts to often keep it at bay.
The physical loss is new–just 14 hours old–but due to his dementia, the loss of the version of my father that I was most familiar with began a few years ago. The last nine years of his life were especially difficult (for both him and his family) after the loss of our mother to ovarian cancer.
He is no longer confused, no longer descending further into the “stygian darkness” (a descriptive he loved to use on his blog) of dementia. I shot the photo below of the two of them a few years before Mom’s passing.
I love you, Dad.
(Excuse the quality of the photo; I’m in Texas and didn’t bring my original files; this is a screen grab so the resolution isn’t up to par.)
Sorry to read of your great loss, Cindy. A sad event, but may he at last rest in peace.
My condolences, Cindy, to you and to your whole family. I will be thinking of and praying for you all at this difficult moment.
I am so sorry for your loss.
Heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I hope your many memories will bring smiles through the tears, and sustain you in this difficult time.
Love the picture of them two together….I remember them when they took that pic…it was at your wedding day. So happy they were there for you and your husband. Again, it’s been difficult to see them in that pic and know they are gone but not forgotten Cindy…..Love ya!
That was beautiful Cindy. I didn’t know your mom and dad physically, but Ive heard so many beautiful and funny stories about them that I have always felt I knew them. You and your whole family are in my thoughts and prayers. Love you all. Tammy

Thank you, Glenda. Sorry I’m just now getting back to you on this sweet comment. Love ya, too!
Thank you, Tammy. I wish you had met them, but they live on in our stories, don’t they? 🙂
