On Assignment: Indoor/outdoor living area by Cross Construction
28 01 2015Earlier this month I photographed an indoor/outdoor living space remodel by Cross Construction here in San Antonio, Texas. Previously, the area where the hardwood floor is now was cement and was part of the outdoor patio. Access to the patio was through a pair of French doors. In the remodeling process, walls were knocked down and the living area was extended, then the folding/sliding doors were added. The owners had a dining room table in this space, which was moved in order to get an unobstructed view for the photographs. Can you imagine how inspiring an art studio would be in a space like this?

On Assignment: Dreamy kitchen by Cross Construction
27 10 2014I photographed this gorgeous kitchen earlier this month in San Antonio, TX. I’ll take it “as is,” including the cat! The beams were actually created from scratch by distressing new wood—I bet that was a fun project!
They made the beams from scratch because ‘real’ ones would be too heavy to try and get into the space. These are hollow beams that were ripped, then distressed with chains, wire, brushes, burned, and whitewashed/painted.

On Assignment: Rooftop terrace #2
13 10 2014This is the second rooftop terrace, photographed a few weeks ago for a client. This terrace has a view of both the Capitol building and the Washington Monument!

On Assignment: Rooftop terrace #1
7 10 2014A few weeks ago, I photographed two beautiful new terraces on the top of an association client’s building. If I worked at this place, I’d find it awfully hard to come back inside after a lunch on the rooftop! This is the smaller of the two terraces…photos of the larger one to come…

The Lady of the Lake in Celebrate Home Magazine
3 10 2012In mid-July I photographed a beautiful log home on the shores of Lake Anna in Virginia. I haven’t done a lot of architectural-type photography, so I knew this would be a challenge. Heeding the advice of my long-time photography mentor, Brian Loflin, I put my camera on a tripod and used really slow shutter speeds to utilize just the ambient light available in each room. I added the human element by having homeowner Marion move through the frame, creating a blur of activity. She serves as a kind of apparition, reinforcing the mythic role of “the lady of the lake.”
