Meeko as gargoyle

15 02 2017

This is my sister Debbie’s older cat, Meeko. This is her perch in the kitchen (and has been for 12 years). This past fall, Debbie and Bill got new countertops in the kitchen and the installer suggested they replace this little pass-through shelf with the granite. After installation, Meeko jumped up as usual and then went flying into space—it wasn’t the wood she normally sat on. The cold granite surface completely freaked her out. She’s been back to sitting on it after months and today was the first time Bill said he had seen her do this gargoyle pose on the new surface. (Apparently you can teach an old cat new tricks!) See her polydactyl feet?

Meet Lily Rose! This is that same kitten I brought to my niece Macie late spring last year when I was traveling from San Antonio back to Virginia. She was just eight weeks old then! Macie named her Lily Rose.

Cheek-to-cheek, a Pixelgram from our DIY kitchen-renovation-in-progress (iPhone 6s / Snapseed app)

Sidebar: the lady head with the napkin hairdo was set up at our Le Diner en Blanc soirée a few years ago. (See recap of that party here: https://cindydyer.wordpress.com/2011/10/07/le-diner-en-blanc-virginia-style/)

I had the lady head at the end of a table with plates and utensils. I think maybe two out of my 30 guests took a napkin. The rest used some paper napkins from the crepe bar. I later learned that everyone thought it was just a display and didn’t want to disassemble it. It’s been on display ever since!

Curious Queso

17 03 2016

I was on the phone a few days ago and was absentmindedly fiddling with one of my dangling earrings. Queso came running and I got these shots of him–mesmerized by these shiny, moving things. Photos shot with my iPhone 6 (and yes, I was on the speaker phone and managed to get these shots at the same time. Creative multi-tasking, I call it). Borders added in Snapseed app (my go-to app these days; love it!) I am constantly amazed at the level of quality of phone snapshots and I use mine all the time for fun projects. Don’t worry, I’m not giving up my pro camera(s) anytime soon.

Introducing Queso…

26 11 2015

Introducing “Queso,” the newest addition to critterfest! My sister Debbie and I were eating at a Moe’s Mexican Grill in mid-July when she was visiting. It was a Saturday night, about 9 p.m. I saw a woman in the outside patio feeding a small cat. I knew we were in trouble. Debbie asked her if she was going to rescue him but she said she had two dogs who don’t even like each other. So, I approached this little guy and realized just how tiny he was. He was probably about eight weeks old. No mama kitty around and no sign of other babies….in a plant bed outside a fast food restaurant in the middle of a big strip mall. No houses within sight. We didn’t know how he got there but he has a new home now. Since we found him outside a Mexican fast food place, and taking into consideration his coloring, we have chosen Queso as his name (and who doesn’t love cheese?)

It has been so much fun to record his growth with my iPhone 6! Here’s a sampling of photos from the night of his rescue in July (top two photos) to this Thanksgiving week (culminating with the cutest photo of him sleeping with his head on my wedge pillow).

My high school friend Aleida suggested that we build a screen door insert for the master bedroom (where he had been quarantined earlier). Her neighbor was an engineer and came up with the idea. It worked so well for her pet introductions that she’s passing on the idea. Michael built a frame with 2x2s and chicken wire, complete with handles to lift it in and out of place. It gave the boys a chance to see and smell him without beating him up! I’m now happy to report that, with the exception of a little growling here and there from the older boys, Queso now has the roam of the house (with some supervision, of course). Slowly but surely, Lobo and Pixel appear to be resigned to the fact that they have a new (obnoxious) younger brother!

Queso also has built quite a fan base on Facebook—so much so that my friend Carol has requested that he have his own page. I think that might just go to his head.

Nancy & Pete’s critters

14 04 2015

I recently turned these three images into a horizontal canvas (three images across) as a thank you gift to my sister-in-law Nancy and husband Pete, who hosted us at their home the weekend after the water lily stamp debut in Ohio. All of the images were shot with my iPhone 6.  I used Snapseed to process them images and add the frames. I added the name in Photoshop for each pet.

Marcela’s B&B in Reyoarfjorour (can’t add the little symbols on top of every other letter!). This is one-year-old Stella (I thought it was her sister, Luna). She loves being outside (with supervision) so that’s why she’s staring out the window. I’ll find out what the name of the mountain range is and get back to you.
