Chinese Ground Orchid (Bletilla striata)

23 05 2018

I had the most fun shooting this particular group of blooms of a Chinese Ground Orchid (Bletilla striata). The plant is appropriately named–they only grow about 1-1.5 feet tall. They were in the hosta and fern shade garden at Meadowlark Botanical Garden and the bright green sunny, dancing shapes in the background made the hot pink just pop. I spread out a trash bag because the area was quite muddy and I had my tripod way low to the ground to get the shots. I think it was well worth the effort!
